The Big Picture

A new public plaza welcomes guests as they arrive and an 80-foot-tall steel and translucent tower acts as a beacon to guide visitors to the facility and downtown Pueblo. The exterior of the building utilizes steel and glass to celebrate this part of the town’s history along with warm red earth tones and terracing roof lines that echo the context of the mountainous terrain. A semiprivate covered area connects the plaza and building, providing an intimate setting for outdoor cocktail events as an extension of the Pre-function space of the Exhibition Hall. This facility also has a unique partner tenant the Professional Bull Riders Sports Performance Center, which is a training facility for athletes. The PBR training facility is connected to the pre-function by a Fan Zone which is an interactive gallery space with memorabilia on PBR, its riders and its rich history.

Ingenuity in Action

Determining the most appropriate facade on the building while maintaining the desired “world class” look and feel required careful analysis of the exterior finishes reviewing their longevity, performance and aesthetics. Ultimately metal cladding, cementitious wall panels, synthetic stucco and curtain wall system was designed into the project. Brick was introduced into the exterior as a way of tying the existing to the new and involve the local brick supplier who was eager to contribute to the project.
